5-Second Action Tool
This tool is inspired by Mel Robbins’ The 5 Second Rule.
Use it anytime you feel hesitation around a goal, habit, or important task.
Count down 5-4-3-2-1 and take immediate action to interrupt fear, doubt, or
procrastination.
How to Use the 5-Second Action Tool
• Identify the goal—What do you want to do right now?
• Notice the hesitation—Catch the moment you start delaying.
• Start the countdown—Say: 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1.
• Move immediately—Take a physical action within 5 seconds.
• Repeat as needed—Each countdown shifts you into action mode.
5-Second Action Prompts
• What’s the smallest action I can take in the next 5 seconds?
• What action would Future Me want me to take right now?
• If I wasn’t overthinking this, what would I do next?
• What’s one physical step I can take before the countdown ends?
• What can I do right now that moves this forward just 1%?
